Cosmopolitan Readings: Beneath the lion's gaze

Realizing the need to take a closer look at societies around the world that are too often overlooked by the mainstream media, we are reading the literature of countries around the world to gain a better understanding of their history, societies, ways of thinking, and political changes, as well as the struggles of people hoping to gain more rights and freedom.

Beneath the Lion's Gaze a story opens in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1974, on the eve of a revolution. Yonas kneels in his mother’s prayer room, pleading to his god for an end to the violence that has wracked his family and country.

Beneath the Lion’s Gaze tells a gripping story of family, of the bonds of love and friendship set in a time and place that has rarely been explored in fiction. It is a story about the lengths human beings will go in pursuit of freedom and the human price of a national revolution.

It is not strictly necessary to read the book beforehand but is strongly recommended in order to fully participate in the discussion.
