Critical Readings book reading club continues discussing a new book: Return to Reims by Didier Eribon (2009)

In short, Didier Eribon (a sociologist/philosopher, currently living in Paris) tries to explore why people from working class background do not tend to vote for the left parties anymore and stared at some point to sympathize with the right-wing – sometimes extremists, even though these do not stand for their interests and rights. He goes back to Reims where he comes from to explore this phenomenon. He meets after a long time his parents who went in the last decades throw this shift and comperes his nowadays life in Paris with the reality of Reims.

Other topics explored in this book: theory applied on the real life and personal experiences, LGBTQ+, xenophobia, life in the center x periphery.

We consider this book easier to read and we decide to move fast and read more chapters this time, but is not required to read all of them in order to attend.

This time, we will not be doing any presenting, just discussion about the chapters and the book as a whole:

Epilogue, part 1 and 2

We are finishing this book, so you can think about some new book to read. We will collect suggestions and make a poll to decide what to read next.
