Social Screenings: Lumumba (2000)

Film screening and discussion. The event is in English.

Last month marked the 60th anniversary of the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, a former prime minister of the Republic of the Congo.

Shortly after Congo won independence on Belgium in June 1960, two regions supported by Belgian mining companies declared secession and Lumumba became a target for both the original colonial power and the USA. After a coup which followed, Lumumba was captured and shot on 17 January 1961. Let's meet and watch a 2000 movie by Raoul Peck which tells the story of Lumumba's final months.

Because of the coronavirus crisis, the event will likely happen online in the virtual room https://call.nolog.cz/b/ada-gtj-503-djt at 19:00. We will first watch the debate together and then discuss it as always.
