Social Screenings: Operación Ogro (1979)

Operación Ogro (Operation Ogre) was the codename for ETA’s plan to assasinate Luis Carrero Blanco, the prime minister of Spain in 1973. Blanco was selected as a successor of Francesco Franco who came to power after a 1936 coup d'état and was responsible for tens of thousands killed and tortured. As the bombing happened two years before Franco’s death, it could have both contributed to Spain’s transformation towards electoral democracy as well as started a spiral of violence between ETA and the state…
