Social Screenings: Bitter Lake (2015)

This summer, the 20-year military occupation of Afghanistan suddenly ended with the withdrawal of the U.S. armed forces (preceded by the withdrawal of its NATO allies, including Czech army). Let's meet and watch an experimental documentary that explores Saudi Arabia's relationship with the U.S. and the role this has played in the war in Afghanistan.

Bitter Lake is a 2015 documentary by British filmmaker Adam Curtis (we have recently screened his series The Century of the Self) which argues that Western politicians have manufactured a simplified story about militant Islam, turning it into a good vs. evil argument informed by, and a reaction to, Western society's increasing chaos and disorder, which they neither grasp nor understand.

A discussion will follow as always. Both the movie and the discussion will be in English.
