Critical Readings: Violence - (Slavoj Zizek, 2009) (2)

Critical Readings book reading group continues "Violence" from Slavoj Žižek.

The slovenian philosopher examines the ways we perceive and misperceive violence, questioning the permissiveness of violence in philanthropy and reflecting on the powerful image and determination of contemporary terrorists.

After discussing how the author categorizes Violence as Subjective, Objective, Systemic and Symbolic, we we will read and discuss in this second meeting Chapter 2 "Fear thy neighbour as thyself!" (27 pages) and Chapter 3 "A Blood-Dimmed Tide is Loosed" (22 pages).

It is not strictly necessary to read the book to join the meeting, although it is recommended in order to participate in the discussion.

The chapters will be presented and resumed by attendants of the group, and then the whole group will discuss its content.
The format of the reading group will be explained at the beginning of the meeting.
